Fitzroy Beach

Just across the walkway!

Fitzroy Beach is great for swimming (in the summer), surfing (all year round), dog walking, and family fun. Fitzroy Surf Lifesaving Club patrol the beach during weekends in the summer months and all week during the six-week school holiday period. The Fitzroy Beach Kiosk opens year-round from the Surf Lifesaving Club and sells coffee, milkshakes, cabinet food, and fish ‘n’ chips. 

New Plymouth Coastal Walkway

Runs along the front of the park!

The award-winning Coastal Walkway is a seaside path that stretches from Port Taranaki (6 km away) across the front of Fitzroy Beach Holiday Park and through to Taranaki Cycle Park in Bell Block (5 km away). The walkway is ideal for walking, running, cycling, scooting, or skating. Road user rules apply so cyclists must wear helmets. Dogs are allowed on the walkway but must be on a leash.

Fitzroy Shopping Village

Devon Street.

Our local shopping centre includes a post shop, a dairy, cafés, hot bread shops, a great bakery, a liquor store, takeaway shops, two pubs, second hand shops, design and gift shops, and a selection of other shops. 

Lake Rotomanu and Te Rewa Rewa Bridge

Clemow Rd, or on the Coastal Walkway.

Stop in and visit Lake Rotomanu as you travel on the Coastal Walkway towards Bell Block. You can take a short walk around the lake or stop for a picnic. Right by the lake you’ll find Te Rewa Rewa Bridge, which spans the Waiwhakaiho River, linking Bell Block with the city. The bridge’s design reflects the history and mythology of the area. On a clear day, you’ll be rewarded with great views of the iconic bridge framing Mt Taranaki.

Mitchell Cycles

477 Devon Street East, Strandon.

Hire a bike and explore New Plymouth on two wheels. Mitchell Cycles is open for bike hire Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings. If Mitchell Cycles is closed or unavailable try Cycle Inn (on Devon St in the city centre) or Chaddy's Charters (Ocean View Parade)

East End Skate Park

East End, 1 km via the Coastal Walkway.

It’s just a short walk/scoot/skate along the coastal walkway from Fitzroy Beach Holiday Park to East End Reserve. This skate park has ramps to suit all abilities and ages. Bring your board or your skates!

New Plymouth Surf School

Fitzroy Beach.

Surf lessons just 100 metres from your cabin! It's never too late to learn to surf. New Plymouth Surf School offers lessons for children and adults as well as women-only surf coaching at Fitzroy beach. Whether you're a complete beginner or want to improve your surfing skills, the focus of their lessons is on having fun. Wetsuit and board hire included.

Fitzroy Golf Course

Record St, Fitzroy.

The beautiful Fitzroy Golf Course shares our boundary and boasts amazing sea views. You can get there easily from the far end of the Park, or vehicle access is via Record Street. Casual players welcome. There are also several golf courses within a short drive: Inglewood, Kaitake, Manukorihi, Ngamotu, New Plymouth, Waitara, and Westown.
